Historic grandeur with a contemporary feel – The Swinton Estate
Earlier this month we took a trip up the M1 to explore the magnificent Swinton Estate in North Yorkshire. Owned by the Cunliffe-Lister family since the 1880s and the ancestral seat of the Earl of Swinton, it is a truly magical place offering a traditional, yet informal stately home experience.
On arrival at Swinton Estate, you are greeted by the Grade II castle set in the serenity of lakes and gardens. It certainly creates a WOW factor from the start.
As you enter the castle, there is a small but cosy lobby leading to various gorgeous rooms, furnished with antiques and family portraits. There is a range of public and private rooms available across the building that lend themselves well for different types of events up to 100 guests. From a board meeting in one of the turret rooms, to drinks reception in the seating room, to a company presentation in the library, this venue offers real flexibility within the opulence of historical surroundings.
The hotel’s 32 bedrooms offer a sense of historic grandeur with a contemporary feel, retaining the old features while providing all the comforts of a modern hotel. The rooms are very spacious too and really feel more like suites!
Food plays an important role at Swinton with four-acre natural kitchen garden, award-winning restaurants and a cookery school. From an afternoon tea and private dining to something a little bit different like garden lunch or chef’s table, there are plenty of opportunities to sample Swinton’s finest cuisine. In addition, the cookery school offers culinary masterclasses, such as taste challenges, ready steady cook and bake off competitions, a tried and tested way to bring a team together.
With 20,000 acres of beautiful grounds to explore, the Estate also offers a multitude of outdoor experiences for corporate groups. With activities such as shooting, fishing, golfing, falconry, orientering, cycling and pony trekking, the possibilities for outdoor adventures are endless.
However, one of the things that sets the Swinton Estate apart from other stately homes is the importance they place on wellbeing. The adjoining country club and spa, with its beautiful contemporary design and a natural aesthetic, offers the perfect space to relax and rejuvenate. Also, on site is the Swinton Bivouac, a glamping site in a woodland setting with tree-lodges and meadow yurts, providing the perfect base for wellness inspired events.
If you’re looking for a way to get your team together to relax and destress, then a mindful digital detox could be the perfect solution. Unplug and unwind with expertly lead wellbeing sessions including forest baths, which are silent forest walks, sound baths providing a deep and healing meditation whilst immersed in sounds from drums, singing bowls, tuning forks and chanting mantras, and reiki drumming, which involves sitting around a campfire and listening to the hypnotic beat of a drum that induces a state of calm, relaxation and meditation. You can design a completely unique wellness retreat by teaming these activities with treatments in the spa, healthy meals from the spa restaurant and overnight stay in the hand built off-grid wooden tree lodges.
With a multitude of activities on offer coupled with friendly staff, versatile events facilities, range of accommodation options and fantastic food, Swinton Estate is perfect for all types of events, such as board meetings, small to medium size conferences, dinner receptions, corporate away days, incentives, team building and more.
